As what Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living”. In my own point of view, people exist because of a reason and this is what they should discover to be able to achieve lifelong success. My purpose of living might be different from yours and vice versa. Perhaps, others have already found out who they wanted to be in life at 16 and others might take it longer than that. But, it doesn’t matter how old or young you are.
No matter who you are and where you came from, you should have the idea of how would you live your life. Just like the maze. If you don’t have the knowledge of your direction in life, you’ll get lost.
Here are the reasons why living your life with purpose is a need to shape you up for a lifelong success.
Learn from your errors
You make mistakes not because you’re foolish to make stupid decisions. Mistakes are made by people who are just starting but it shouldn’t be taken lightly. It serves as a reminder for us that life is not perfect. You are flawed. You may have shortcomings along the way but that’s what life’s all about and you just need to deal with it.
Failure is a great teacher and if you’ll just use the things that you’ve learned in a correct way, you will get too far. Be happy that you mess up for it’s a sign that you’re progressing.
Let go of your egos
Why do you think that there is always a division in every situation? It’s simply because of our egos. Sometimes, you tend to have more vague visions in life because your egos are trying to block their way out. If you will let go of your ego, you will drive the source of conflicts away because ego is usually the reason why you always wanted to be better and right than others.
Always crave for self-growth
Knowing your purpose in life means that you are eager to strive hard in order to accomplish a particular goal. Growing, for me, is knowing that there’s a reason why certain things happen. If you will focus on your development, you’ll find out that there is still enough room for you to improve. It will help you change your mindset and to be optimistic with whatever is thrown at you.
Have you read the Invictus written by William Ernest Henley? In the last two stanzas, he stated: “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul”. Self-growth is something that we thought happened in adulthood period but it’s actually an ongoing process to be able to build your own empire.
“I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul”

Start being a lifelong learner
Learning doesn’t stop after getting a diploma. This is what I actually thought before but then adulthood happened. I realized that life is about knowing your value and reasons for existing. You should keep in mind that in order for you to fully develop yourself, you should learn how to be open with the opportunities even after you’ve already retired and is enjoying your retirement in another country.
Valuing your inner self
Living with a purpose gives you the chance to dig deeper with the potentials that you’ve overlooked over the years. If you have known your purpose in this world, you’ll learn to know who you are within. Being able to see the real you makes you recognize how unique you are.
Your inner-self represents who you are, not your identity. It’s okay if you’re not yet in the stage where you have wholly know yourself. Discovering who you are is the first step and I’m sure that you’ll get there. Maybe not now, but eventually you will.
Stop trying to be someone else
You are awesome just the way you are and you are meant to shine bright no matter what your naysayers say. We tend to think that to be accepted, we should copy others. Most of the times, society makes us forget who we are because of the word “belongingness”. We always wanted to feel that we belong that we have neglected the person we wanted to be.
Believe me when I say that your glitches are what make you stand out among your other contemporaries. You will shine even without copying other women. You can listen to the songs that could empower your inner confidence. A right song can help you overcome your fears and could help you in every stage of your life.
You’ll get more passionate
You will always think of your goals and not with the mistakes that you will going to encounter. It’ll be much harder for you to keep your routine. Imagine a car without a fuel? Do you think it will work without it? Passion is like a fuel, it’s the one that is giving you the power to accomplish your goals efficiently.
If you’re passionate about something, you’ll always wake up with a smile. Your outputs say something about how ardent you are towards your work. If you always fail after several attempts, maybe there’s something wrong with how you view your life. Ask yourself, is that what you wanted?
Knowing your purpose in life is what keeps you going. Life is not walking in a straight path. It’s where you began. Your life has a direction and meaning. George Eliot stated that “It is never too late to be who you might have been.” There will always be right doors for you to open. But first, you should know your specific goals because if you will just settle with the general ones, like “to be successful”, you might want to ask yourself in what way would you like to be successful?
The mistakes, egos, and not being to show who you really are is just a phase that almost everyone has been to. It will never validate your existence.
