Practicing deep breathing for even five minutes a day will: reduce your stress levels, relax your muscles, release toxins from your body, relieve emotional problems, boost your immune system, support your organs, strengthen the heart, aid in digestion, and elevate your mood. 

Not bad for a simple thing like consciously inhaling and exhaling, huh? To get the full benefit, inhale and exhale deeply and slowly for the same number of counts, ie: Inhale 2, 3, 4 and exhale 2, 3, 4. Repeat.
