Visiting NYC and totally bummed it’s now raining on your vacation? Or live here and feel like you’ve about maxed out all your rainy day ideas? Here’s 11 ways you can spend a rainy day in New York City…

So many museums so little time

I love modern art so I gravitate towards the MoMA, the Whitney, and the New Museum, but if you want to spend hours wandering the halls looking at incredible art you can never go wrong with a visit to the Met (aka the Metropolitan Museum of Art… you know the one where Blair and her posse lunched every day in Gossip Girl or where you see divine gowns on Bey and the Hadid sisters every May for the Met Gala… ok I digress). Plus there are always new shows happening and new art to see at any given time, so take a look at the exhibit schedules and go immerse yourself in some creative culture.

Go see a movie… luxury style

I feel like I rarely go to the theater any more since our laptops and on-demand services have taken over. But sometimes it’s just so much fun to snack on popcorn and sugary snacks while immersing yourself in the classic movie experience and some movies really are just better on the big screen. I recently saw Beauty and the Beast with some friends and it was wonderful, we all sang along to the classic songs and loved the subtle feminist additions to the plot (plus who doesn’t love Emma Watson). There’s also a fascinating trend for dinner theater and you can get so much more than just a movie at places like the iPic Theater downtown.

Try a fun workout

There is no shortage of interesting and trendy fitness in the city, from taking a class at Chelsea Piers to learning to rock climb at Brooklyn Boulders. Some of my favorites include Pure Barre, Overthrow Boxing, and YogaWorks.

Attend a Broadway show

Yet another thing I wish I took more advantage of living in New York are the incredible productions on Broadway. You could find matinee tickets to a show like Amelie or Kinky Boots.

Go shopping indoors

Check out Brookfield Place (and the adjoining french food hall called Le District!), the Shops at Columbus Circle, Chelsea Market, or one of the department stores like Bloomingdale’s or Barney’s so you can avoid the weather and look at beautiful things.

Take a class and learn some new skills

You could learn to cook, practice your painting or drawing, discover you have a knack for hip-hop dancing, or gain any number of new skills at one of hundreds of classes offered throughout the city. You’ll never know how much you can learn unless you try, so why not?

Explore the New York Public Library or The Strand

What better activity for a rainy day than catching up on some reading? These two New York City landmarks will keep you occupied for hours as you find a cozy corner and delve into a good book.

Have a long lunch

There are so many great restaurants in the city so get a group of friends together and spend hours sipping drinks and enjoying conversation over some delicious food. For my favorite restaurants in the city, check out my NYC Guide here.

Treat yourself to a spa day

We can all use a little more relaxation in our lives, especially living in this fast-paced crazy city. Look for spa offers on Gilt and Groupon and book yourself some spa treatments like a massage or a mani-pedi. You deserve it.

Take an underground tour of the subway

Our transportation system is actually fascinating and full of so much history, so stay dry underground and get to know another side of NYC with a tour like this one.

Or just stay inside and catch up on the latest show, with zero shame.

I’ve started watching Big Little Lies recently and I’m hooked. I also love This Is Us, Scandal, and Blacklist, but there are so many good shows out in this TV golden age, so dim the lights, make a cup of tea (or some popcorn!) and cozy up to your Netflix account.
