Women are taking over Hollywood by storm. They are heroines. They are villainesses. They are fantastic in every single way. These leading ladies exude power on and off camera. They aren’t just pretending to be a feminist; they are feminist! They’re sword-wielding, ball-busting, ass-kicking – winning the day for both men and women in their films. These aren’t your grandmother’s movies. It’s a new era and we’re loving it. Here are the female-led films you simply cannot live without:
‘Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens’ Lets Women Take the Lead – CNN
‘The Force Awakens’ is the most feminist installment of Star Wars yet. Both the protagonist and antagonist roles are led by women. Daisy Ridley proudly takes on the protagonist leading character of ‘Rey.’ “[Rey is] so strong. She’s cool and smart and she can look after herself,” says ‘Elle’ Magazine. ‘Refinery 29’ puts her into context, “Rey is not just the Leia of the movie. She’s the Leia, Luke, and Han rolled into one. She’s got Han’s scrappiness.” Game of Throne’s Gwendoline Christie took the role of ‘Captain Phasma,’ the ‘First Order’ officer in Star Wars. Gwendoline calls her a “progressive female character.” ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ directed by J.J. Abrams, opened in theaters on December 18, 2015.

Thirteen 2015 Sequels Ranked By Their Badass Female Leads – Bustle
2015 was filled with a record number of epic movie sequels lead by women. “Given the fact that most sequels are action films, the abundance of female characters should not be taken lightly.” ‘Bustle’ ranks ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2’ in first place for Jennifer Lawrence’s dominating performance. “Katniss Everdeen is, by far, the most badass female protagonist of all the 2015 sequels.” ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ is ranked second on this list and is called the most feminist action movie ever. Falling in third place is none other than ‘Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens’ for its breakthrough female leads, both on the light and dark side of the force.
48 Things Women Hear In a Lifetime (That Men Just Don’t) – Huff Post
Huff Post has put together the most brilliant video on ‘subtle sexism.’ In two minutes time, the piece shows the derogatory labels placed upon women over the past 80 years. One woman after another, 48 women in all, stares right down the barrel of the camera. Each woman voices a subversive remark commonly said to women over the past 8 decades. Don’t just watch the video; listen! Have you accidently said any of these words or phrases about women? Do you allow them to be said of you?
