What fun is there in doing things the way they have always been done? This rhetorical question doesn’t stop us from wanting to shout… “None at all!” This week our featured women are breaking barriers to promote female empowerment. It’s not their goal to fit a particular mold. Their courage to stand out – for all the right reasons – allows them to shine like a beacon to women everywhere.

1. ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Challenges Stereotypes One Song at a Time – NPR

“The whole show is about deconstructing stereotypes and deconstructing people and finding the truth beneath tropes. And so that’s why the title is so, kind of, provocative in that way. You know, using the label “crazy ex-girlfriend” and viewing it from a feminist perspective and how does one come to embody that?”

2. Chanel Taps Willow Smith as Brand Ambassador – Luxury Daily

“French couture house Chanel is the latest brand to align itself with teenage celebrity Willow Smith, choosing the star as its ambassadress. The 15-year-old singer-actress-dancer and progeny of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith is perhaps best known for individuality in art and personal style. Chanel has been courting younger consumers with the casting of stars such as Kristen Stewart and Lily Rose Depp, in addition to Ms. Smith.”

3. Allison Williams Stars in Whimsical Keds Ad Touting Female Empowerment – AdWeek

“Keds is doubling down on its commitment to empowering women with a new campaign starring Allison Williams, Ciara and Tori Kelly…. Keds is partnering with Refinery29 to produce content for the campaign, including social content as well as interviews with Williams, Ciara and Kelly that discuss pivotal moments in their careers. Refinery29 also curated a roster of more influencers from a range of backgrounds, including female entrepreneurs, musicians, digitally-native fashion influencers and makers. “Keds is really aligned with our mission and our point of view,” said Justin Stefano, co-founder and co-CEO of Refinery29. ‘For us, as a platform that’s completely dedicated to women’s empowerment, it was a really good fit.’”

4. Ghostbusters International Trailer Reveals More Footage! – ComingSoon.net

“The new Ghostbusters film sees Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy as scientists Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, respectively. Gilbert is a particle physicist while Yates, Gilbert’s close friend, is an expert in the paranormal. As ghost sightings ramp up, they team with Kate McKinnon‘s Jillian Holtzmann, a nuclear engineer who winds up creating the team’s tech. Leslie Jones‘ Patty Tolan, then, is the team’s everyman character who winds up playing an important role connected to an early supernatural encounter.”
